Adobe is leveling up its generative AI game. On Thursday, the company unveiled major updates to its Firefly family of creative AI tools, including the launch of Firefly Image Model 4, a new vector art generator, a redesigned web platform, and a suite of APIs aimed at developers and creative professionals. A mobile version of Firefly is also on the horizon.

📸 Firefly Image Model 4: More Control, More Detail, Higher Resolution

At the heart of the announcement is Firefly Image Model 4, Adobe’s most advanced image generator to date. The model delivers higher quality, faster generation, and greater creative control — including nuanced adjustments to style, composition, zoom, and camera angles. It can now render images in up to 2K resolution.

An enhanced variant, Image Model 4 Ultra, offers even more precision, capable of handling intricate scenes with fine structures and dense detail.

“We trained these models with a significantly higher compute budget,” said Alexandru Costin, Adobe’s VP of Generative AI. “The result is dramatically better text generation and the ability to stylize images using user-provided references.”

🎞 Firefly Video and Vector Models: Now Open to All

Also launching publicly is Firefly Video, Adobe’s text-to-video tool previously in limited beta. It enables creators to:

  • Generate video clips from text or images

  • Customize camera movement, atmosphere, and motion design

  • Specify start/end frames for precise shot control

  • Output at up to 1080p resolution

Adobe also introduced its first Firefly Vector Model, capable of creating editable, scalable vector art — think logos, product packaging, icons, and patterns. Designers can generate, iterate, and remix concepts rapidly within the same creative flow.

🌐 Unified Firefly Web App: One Hub, Many Models

Adobe has overhauled the Firefly web app to serve as a central hub for all its AI tools — and more. The platform now includes not only Adobe’s own models but also integrations with top-tier third-party generators, including:

  • OpenAI (image generation via GPT)

  • Google (Imagen 3, Veo 2)

  • Flux (Flux 1.1 Pro)

Users can switch between these models seamlessly, and every asset generated will include content credentials, embedding metadata for transparency and traceability.

🧠 Firefly Boards: A New Moodboarding Canvas

The company is also beta testing Firefly Boards, a collaborative ideation canvas for creating moodboards. Similar to tools like Visual Electric or Kosmik, it lets users generate, remix, and collaborate on image collections — all within the Firefly ecosystem.

🛠 Developer Tools: APIs for Everything

Adobe is expanding its Firefly Services API suite, making several tools generally available:

  • Text-to-Image API

  • Avatar API

  • Text-to-Video API (currently in beta)

These APIs open the door for custom integrations into design workflows, websites, and third-party applications.

🔐 Content Authenticity and Image Use Controls

To address concerns around authorship and ethical AI use, Adobe is piloting a tool called Adobe Content Authenticity. The platform allows creators to:

  • Embed ownership metadata

  • Specify AI training permissions on their content

This aligns with Adobe’s broader push for content transparency, especially as generative AI becomes more embedded in creative industries.

Adobe hasn’t set a specific timeline for when these models will roll out across its flagship products like Photoshop or Illustrator, but the company made it clear: Firefly is fast becoming the creative backbone of its AI-powered future.
